Metabolic Flexibility

“Metabolic Flexibility” is now a vogue term to describe the ability of the body to utilize the many forms of energy available to it to include: body fat, glucose, and ketones (there are a couple more, but their description becomes more technical)

Much, if not most, of our population is no longer metabolically flexible as reflected in their weight, high triglycerides, glucose levels (a whole host more) and chronic diseases.

Physical activity and nutrition are very interdependent in the way metabolic flexibility is affected. A change in one without an appropriate change in the other can lead to metabolic “inflexibility”, which is what type 2 diabetes is. Metabolic inflexibility leads to weight gain.
