Wellness Coaching Process

Wellness Coaching is about self improvement through behavior change to achieve improved wellness.


 Phase 1: Connecting

This stage is about connecting:

  • Discovering and introducing ourselves

  • Discussing the nature of coaching. What it is - and is not.

  • My providing credentials and biography so you have a sense for who you are considering working with.

  • Discussing the program’s protocol, fees, and payment structure.


Phase 2: Program Startup

This stage is about setting expectations:

  • Discuss and agree on coaching principles.

  • Reviewing confidentiality and record keeping.

  • Clarifying/confirming expectations regarding logistics (i.e., payments, scheduling, rescheduling, and length of sessions).

  • Explore “Initial Assessment”.

  • Discuss the need for a Physician Release if applicable.

  • Design a Vision

  • Design Three-Month Goals

  • Design an Action Plan


Phase 3: On-going Coaching

This stage is about conducting Coaching Sessions:

  • Explore how the client is doing “in this moment”

  • Explore client positive experiences since last session

  • Review weekly goals (behavior change/habit goals)

  • Review Three-Month Goal:

    • Three-Month Goal > Vision Connection.

    • Review Learning, Growth and experiences toward Goal.

    • Evaluate level of engagement and commitment to Goals.

    • Reflect on strengths, abilities and growth in this period.

  • Utilize a “Generative Moment” to determine next behavior/habit goal


Phase 4: Program Close

This stage is about closing out this immediate Three Month Coaching Program:

  • Understand rationale for stopping the Coaching Program.

  • Complete a Coaching Program Close-Out Survey

  • Summarize and celebrate learning and growth.

  • Review considerations for continued progress relative to Stage of Change.
